Mountain View, CA, December 10, 2014 - The El Camino Healthcare District today announced that Peter C. Fung, MD, FACP, FAAN, FAHA, took an oath of office as a member of the Board of Directors and David Reeder was sworn in for his fourth term on the Board effective December 9, 2014. In addition, the District Board elected them both to the El Camino Hospital Board of Directors.
"Dr. Fung's has 35 years of clinical expertise as a physician and will be a community advocate to strengthen both the El Camino Healthcare District Board as well as the Hospital Board's expertise and will ensure that El Camino Hospital continues to provide high-quality, efficient and compassionate care to our patients," said Julia Miller, chair of the El Camino Healthcare District Board of Directors. "We are also pleased that David Reeder will continue his service on the Board and currently chairs the Quality and Governance Committees. Mr. Reeder has served in many leadership capacities during his tenure."
Dr. Fung is a neurologist at El Camino Hospital. He specializes in stroke and clinical neurophysiology; he has a special interest in the treatment of migraines, neck and back pain, seizure disorders, Alzheimer's disease, and cerebrovascular disease. He also specializes in medical acupuncture. Dr. Fung is a member of the El Camino Hospital Chinese Health Initiative's Physician Referral Network. He sits on the Stroke Council and the Diversity Leadership Council of the American Heart Association (AHA) and is a member of the Medical Advisory Council of the Pacific Stroke Association (PSA). Dr. Fung earned his MD from the University of Hong Kong and an MS in neurophysiology from the University of Michigan. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center and in neurology at the University of Michigan.
Patricia A. Einarson, MD, MBA, did not seek re-election to the El Camino Healthcare District Board. During her time on the Board, she helped in the CEO search and championed for the expansion of the El Camino Hospital Board and committees. "We thank Dr. Einarson for her four years of exceptional service on the District Board. We are grateful for her many contributions and service to our hospital and our community." said Julia Miller.
Director Einarson's departure from the Board created a vacancy in the Office of the Chair which, as the Vice Chair, Julia Miller assumed in accordance with the District's Bylaws. Director Chiu was elected Vice Chair, and Director Fung was elected to the position of Secretary/Treasurer. The new positions are effective December 9, 2014.
The El Camino Hospital District was established by voter approval in 1956 in accordance with California Local Hospital District Law. The purpose of the District, now known as El Camino Healthcare District, is to establish, maintain and operate or provide assistance in the operation of health facilities and other health care services provider, groups and organizations that are necessary for the maintenance of good physical and mental health in the communities served by the District. The Board of Directors is composed of five publicly elected or appointed representatives. As a group, these representatives oversee the assets of the District, including El Camino Hospital. The five District Board members also currently serve on the nine-member governing board of El Camino Hospital, which manages hospital operations.
The District encompasses most of Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills; a large portion of Sunnyvale, and small sections of Cupertino, Santa Clara, and Palo Alto. The publicly elected El Camino Healthcare District Board of Directors approves tax dollar expenditures, including expenditures for the award winning Community Benefit program. Community Benefit funds are granted each year to local nonprofits, schools and government programs that provide critical health services to the underserved.
