Mountain View, Calif. – November 9, 2016 – The El Camino Healthcare District has announced that Dennis Chiu, Julia Miller and John Zoglin were approved as Directors of the El Camino Healthcare District at the September 27, 2016 Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors meeting. They will officially be sworn in December 6, 2016.
Dennis Chiu is the founder of Prodigy Law, a law firm that specializes in providing legal, political and strategic consulting to healthcare non-profits, physicians, corporations, elected officials and candidates and a government relations specialist for The Doctors Company. Prior to being elected to his first four-year term on the District Board of Directors in 2012, he served on the Santa Clara County Planning Commission for over 13 years. He is the District’s Vice Chair, Vice Chair of the El Camino Hospital Board and Chair of the Hospital Board Finance Committee. He is also a member of the Corporate Compliance, Privacy and Internal Audit Committee. Director Chiu earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the University of California, Los Angeles. In June of this year, Director Chiu was selected as the recipient of the Association of California Healthcare Districts’ (ACHD) Healthcare District Trustee of the Year award.
Julia E. Miller served eight years as mayor and council member for the City of Sunnyvale. She has extensive government experience having served on the boards of many agencies, including the Association of Bay Area Governments, Bay Area Economic Forum, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Sustainable Silicon Valley, San Francisco Bay Trail, San Francisco FBI Community Academy Alumni Association, Leadership Sunnyvale and the Sunnyvale Historical Society. A longtime Lockheed Martin employee before entering politics, Julia was publicly elected to her first term on the District Board in 2012. Director Miller currently serves as the District Board secretary/treasurer and as liaison to the Community Benefit Advisory Council. She is also a member of the El Camino Hospital Board of Directors and its Executive Compensation Committee. She serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the ACHD and represents the District Board on the Silicon Valley Tobacco Securitization Joint Powers Authority in the role of Vice President.
John Zoglin is the IBM Enterprise Marketing Management service practice leader. He was first appointed to the District Board in March 2007. Director Zoglin currently serves as the Chair of the Hospital Board Corporate Compliance and Investment committees and is also a member of the Finance Committee. He follows his father in service to El Camino Hospital; Dr. Stanton Zoglin served as the hospital’s chief of staff in the early 1960s. John earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University and a master’s degree in business administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
The El Camino Hospital District was established by voter approval in 1956 in accordance with California Local Hospital District Law. The purpose of the District is to establish, maintain and operate or provide assistance in the operation of health facilities and other health care services provider, groups and organizations that are necessary for the maintenance of good physical and mental health in the communities served by the District. The District, now known as El Camino Healthcare District, encompasses most of Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills; a large portion of Sunnyvale, and small sections of Cupertino, Santa Clara and Palo Alto. The publicly elected El Camino Healthcare District Board of Directors approves tax dollar expenditures, including expenditures for the award winning Community Benefit program. Community Benefit funds are granted each year to local nonprofits, schools and government programs that provide critical health services to the underserved. All District Board meetings are publicly noticed, open to the public and available for viewing on the District website.
